Dear Neighbor,

Nebraska has a proud tradition of doing things differently—from our unique approach to the Electoral College, to our nonpartisan Unicameral, to our publicly owned utilities. These systems were built to put power in the hands of the people—not just the privileged few. But for too long, leadership positions have gone to those with the “right” name, the “right” connections, or the “right” income bracket. It’s time for a new voice. It’s time for real change. That’s why I’m running to represent District 2 on the OPPD Board of Directors.

I’m a lifelong Nebraskan, raised along Highway 75 from Pawnee City to Homer, and I’ve spent my life serving this state. After earning both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from UNO, I began a 14-year career as a special education teacher. My wife Shylo—a lifelong South Omaha resident—and I are proud to raise our son in the Hanscom Park neighborhood, where we stay actively involved in our community. I’m running because I believe public power should serve all of us, not just the well-connected.

If elected, I’ll fight to keep our power affordable by finding alternative funding sources when making infrastructure investments, delivering fairer pricing, and improving efficiency. I’ll prioritize reliability by investing in infrastructure, enhancing outage communication, and supporting a more diverse energy mix. And I’ll ensure safety by championing modern, responsible practices that protect workers and the public alike.

Public power belongs to the people. I’d be honored to earn your support.

Thank you for your time,

Flint Harkness
